Changing diapers can be quality time for both mother and baby
Jun 24th, 2011 | By Contributor | Category: Healthy Aging, Parenting, PregnancyParents dont usually look forward to changing diapers; nevertheless, this is one task they must do whether they like it or not. Therefore, instead of making it a messy business, its best they learn the proper art of doing it, which is one of the parenting strategies that both new mums and dads have to learn. Since changing diapers is not exactly rocket science, parents will get the hang of it, sooner than later; albeit through trial and error.
Having all necessary items close at hand for changing diapers makes it an easy process. Its not practical or safe to keep running here and there looking for things while babys kept on the bed or changing table. Make sure you have everything ready such as the new diaper, wipes, diaper cream, baby powder and babys outer wear before you begin.
Changing Diapers is easy if you keep baby on a firm and smooth surface so that babys tender skin will not be affected. A changing table is ideal for this purpose, if you can get one. When you are ready, place a clean diaper on the table and place baby on it before removing the soiled diaper. This is in order to prevent any accident that can happen before the new diaper is in place. You can now remove the soiled diaper and throw it into a trash bag and clean babys bottom from the front to back and never back to front. This is to avoid any bacteria infecting babys urinary tract. This is important when changing diapers.
Baby powders and baby creams are available in a wide range in all supermarkets and pharmacies. Its not necessary to select the most expensive product for your baby, because even a cheap product has to conform to certain standards before they are approved. Creams and powders prevent rashes and is good for babys skin, apart from making her feel nice and comfy. Airing babys bottom for a while is recommended before fixing the new diaper.
No matter how busy a mum is having some quality time with her baby is very important. The time taken when changing diapers will provide such an opportunity to any mum who can talk and croon to her baby all the time shes going through the process. Holding her close and hugging her after shes cleaned up can be a wonderful time for interacting and help bring mother and baby close. When fastening the new diaper make sure its snug enough to prevent any leaks but not too tight to cause chaffing.
Now that the process of changing diapers is completed. Cleaning up should be carried out meticulously. The soiled diaper should be tightly waded and fastened and placed in the trash bag. Modern diapers are so easy to use and dispose of unlike the cloth diapers with safety pins used by mums of days gone by. None the less, they did a great job of it, and dont forget they also had to wash, disinfect and iron the cloth before it was used again. Todays mums are much more fortunate and all they have to learn is changing diapers, which is easy to do when you learn how.
