One of them, nicotine, is more addictive than heroin. There are over two hundred different chemicals in the tobacco used to make cigarettes. Tobacco smoke, when inhaled, contains an extremely unhealthy mix of formaldehyde, arsenic, ammonia, carbon monoxide, methanol, and hydrogen cyanide which enters your lungs via the blood stream.
A recent survey in the United States questioned adult smokers, both men and women, about serious health issues associated with tobacco use. A large portion of the participants smoke at least a pack a day and began smoking in their teens. With all the efforts to educate people on the dangers of smoking, the results were alarming. The participants stated they realized smoking led to cancer, but over half did not think it would happen to them. Forty percent of the participants believed that lung cancer developed due to hereditary causes rather than from smoking. Thirty-three percent of the smokers believe exercise and taking vitamins protects from harmful side effects using tobacco causes.
